Lawrence Middle School

Dear Students ,

Welcome to a brand new school year! I'm very excited and looking forward to meet each and every one of you and begin a wonderful journey together.

For those of you that don't know me, I have been teaching chinese for over 10 years, and I have taught public school for over 5 years in the USA. I grew up in Tianjin, China, and came here in 1989. I have traveled all over the US. I have lived in Boston, San Fransisco, New York, and currently reside in New Jersey with my husband, my son Dennis; 14, and my daughter Rebecca; 12.

This year, I am going to share with you the rich 5000 years culture of China and unique Chinese Language and characters. I believe that all students can benefit from learning another language and culture. Language study enhances the ability to see connections between various diciplince by incorportating visual and performing arts, media technology, health, mathematics, science, social studies and workplace readiness into the language classroom. The course will also help develop the skills and habits essential to the learning process and will provide you with a sense of personal satisfaction and enjoyment as they learn to communitcate with people with other cultures.

See You Soon!

Classroom rules and procedures

Classroom Rules and Procedures – Mrs. Li???

2009-2010

Let's work together, and do our best to make your class as enjoyable and meaningful as possible. In order for this to happen, the following classroom rules must be followed.

1. ??(Be on time)

You will be written up if you are late. Remember, three write-ups equal an after school detention. You are to be IN YOUR SEAT when the bell rings.

2. ??????? (Be prepared)

* Sharpen your pencil when you walk in the door or at a time you are not disrupting the class.

* Bring your binder with your notebook, pencils/pens, book, workbook and other materials to class. The lack of preparation will result in a consequence.

3. ?????? (Participate and do all homework)

* Participate in oral activities, daily language exercises, and group work.

* Late work and absent work is to be completed according to district policy.

4. ????,????,????

(Respect yourself, your teacher, others and their property)

* Be respectful to Mrs. Li and other students.

* Do not disturb other students or their materials.

    • Do not write on desks, walls or class materials

    • Do not take other people's text book

    • Do not touch the teacher's desk without permission

    • Do not talk when the teacher is talking

    • Please rise up your hand to ask and answer questions

    • Please ask permission to leave your seat

    • Please use indoor voices when talk in the classroom

5. ????Homework

Most homework is to be ready the next class. Some assignments may be ongoing and a due date will always be given. Being that this class meets on an alternating basis, the completion of homework is crucial to prepare for the next class lesson.

If homework is not completed, you must fill out a “form” to explain why it is missing and turn it in to Mrs. Li after she has collected/checked the homework. Make-up work must be completed in a timely manner. One day’s absence equals one day’s make-up time which is consistent with district policy. If you were present in class before a quiz you are responsible for taking the quiz.

    6. ??(Text book policy)

Each student will be given a text book for study, class work and homework. You are allowed to write in the book, but, the book is still the school's property, so you are responsible to keep the book for yourself and in good order. The book has to be returned by the end of the school year. If you lost your assigned book, you would have to pay $17.95 for the cost of the book.

7?Classroom Consequences

The following infractions can result in a consequence:

* Talking out of turn, forgetting to bring supplies, inappropriate behavior, negative comments / behavior, breaking class or school rules, non-participation, tar-dies

If a student causes an infraction of the rules, the following will occur

* 1st infraction – Warning and reminder of appropriate behavior

* 2nd infraction – A phone call home and lunch detention

* 3rd infraction - A phone call home and a written referral to the office

Note: If a student’s behavior is persistently a problem, the above system will bypassed and a behavior plan will set up with the student and parent along with the school administration.

Please sign to show that you understand the rules and procedures:
